The Philadelphia Eagles won’t have much time to sulk about their frustrating Week 3 loss to the Detroit Lions. The preparation for their Week 4 Thursday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers begins today.
The Eagles’ backs are up against the wall. They’re 1-2 heading to Lambeau Field to take on an undefeated Packers team. It’s no surprise, then, that the Eagles are underdogs this week. As seen on SB Nation’s odds page, the Packers are favored by 4.5 points, which is slightly more than the typical 3-point home team line.
Final Analysis for the Green Bay Packers
Pass Offense: After losing starting quarterback Seneca Wallace early in the first quarter, the Packers turned the offense over to backup QB Scott Tolzien. Throwing for 280 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, Tolzien had an up-and-down day. It’s easy to notice that without Aaron Rodgers, this Packers offense looks completely different.
Run Offense: Rushing for 73 yards on 23 carries, rookie running back Eddie Lacy did everything he could to give this Packers offense a spark. A hard-nosed runner with a lot promise, Lacy has to become the focal point of this offense with Rodgers out.
Two teams in the NFC that have high hopes for 2017 are certainly the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. However, they both come about those high hopes in different regards. No matter how they came about, though, they’ll start their NFL preseason campaigns on Thursday night as the Eagles head to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers.
For Green Bay, this is a team you always expect to be in contention. That’s the name of the game when it comes to the Packers since Aaron Rodgers took the helm. This year is no different. However, the preseason will be important to see how young defenders go bout improving a unit that struggled last year.
I don’t think the Eagles will get totally blown out because Wentz has been playing well, Doug Pederson’s teams fight hard for him, and the Packers have had some offensive issues of their own under Matt LaFleur. But I do like Green Bay to win this game and I definitely think they can cover.
Run Defense: It was a tough day for the Packers run defense. Giving up 204 yards on the ground, the Packers had major issues generating any sort of penetration at the line of scrimmage.
Special Teams: Shanking two early field-goal attempts, Packers kicker Mason Crosby really hurt his team in Week 10. For an offense that is missing a ton of their playmakers, to be able to drive down the field and not put up points is a serious momentum killer.
